As a NZ Masters Hockey International I have fitness and conditioning goals to maintain and occasional injuries to recover from. The disciplined regular training sessions with Graeme deal with all these issues and have kept me going as NZ Masters most capped International player.
There are some mornings where I wake up and feel so much stiffness and pain in my back that I can’t imagine that it would be possible to do a gym workout. However because I have an appointment with Graeme I go to the gym and the sorts of exercises he takes me through free up my back and I feel normal again.

I have been training with Graeme for 13 years. Graeme’s brief has been to keep me functionally fit and on the football field as long as possible (I am now in my mid 40s).
Working with Graeme has been a pleasure. He is very good at listening and understands what I want to achieve and as importantly the constraints I have (age and free time these days). He is continually looking for new ideas to make training interesting and more effective but never brings anything to our sessions he has not successfully tested on himself. I like that.

4 years ago, 7 months after badly breaking my leg, my GP suggested I should go see Graeme. I did and I have never looked back from there. I had lost my mobility which had affected my confidence. I am now fitter, more flexible and stronger than I was prior to my accident. Graeme listens, encourages and is a great motivator. There is always an alternative exercise for something you find difficult so nothing is insurmountable. Years before I had a skiing accident which meant I needed a silicone implant in my elbow. Last year I had that taken out and it was replaced with my own muscle to hold the elbow in place, so again Graeme came to the rescue and helped me rehabilitate.

I was 58 when I experienced severe hip discomfort which was starting to limit my ability to move freely. My GP suggested that fitness sessions may improve my mobility and limit discomfort and recommended I see Graeme Ahern. I arranged to attend a preliminary session with Graeme at Bodyworx. It went well and with exercises designed and supervised by Graeme my hip discomfort was overcome and flexibility, mobility and my ability to carry out manual tasks has improved significantly. I have met with Graeme on a weekly basis since then (10 years) without further problems and continue to derive real benefit in flexibility and general wellbeing.

Graeme has helped me in a number of ways. He has helped me return to health and fitness after a serious car accident. A couple of years ago I returned to tournament golf, playing on the Australasian Legends Tour. Graeme has raised the level of my fitness and strength which has been of great benefit for my golf.

Having always done my exercise by myself, I am enjoying the company of the others in the class, while at the same time not being overwhelmed by too many people clambering for space or help from a trainer. In our class we have up to 6 class members every week, so there is a chance to ask questions and also benefit from other’s enquiries. Graeme nearly always has some new exercise or nutritional information for us each week. Many of the exercises we do in the circuit we can continue with on other days at home, so there is the opportunity for the self motivated to get even greater benefit from the class.

I was originally advised by my GP to visit Graeme at Bodyworx after having keyhole surgery on a blown cartilage in my back. Graeme gave me exercises to strengthen my core (a part of the body I didn’t know existed). He also showed me how to be more in tune with my whole body. Three years on I am as pliable as I was in my mid 20s and take pride in my fitness.
